Click here if you found our web site but actually wanted to know about the public swimming at the Hydro. |
HDSC has achieved nationally recognised accreditation under the ASA Swim 21 scheme, and was the first Club in Yorkshire to do so. Harrogate District Swimming Club is a voluntary association which exists to promote the enjoyment of competitive swimming. HDSC is run under the Laws of the Amateur Swimming Association, to which it is affiliated through the Yorkshire SA, and the North Eastern Region ASA. HDSC also affiliates to the White Rose Junior Swim League and to the Modern Pentathlon Association of Great Britain. Members have the opportunity to swim for individual honours through the Club Championships and the higher Championships run by the above bodies. HDSC enters Teams in the White Rose League and other Championships. Membership is open to all members of the Harrogate Department of Leisure Services Swimming Development Scheme (SDS) and membership is a requirement for members of squads. HDSC has a reputation for running Swim meets at the Hydro which are to a very high standard and please see the Meets section of the web site for details. The Club is run by a Committee, for details of which, click the button at the left. The Committee needs the assistance of parents to help to fulfil the activities of the Club. The Committee is elected each year at the AGM in January. The Club began in 1896 as the Harrogate Men's Swimming Forum, at the old Dragon Road baths (now demolished). In 1924 it amalgamated with the Harrogate Ladies Swimming Club, to become the Harrogate Swimming Club. In 1972 it became the Harrogate District Swimming Club, when the Local Authority also became Harrogate District, being re-organised to include Ripon and Knaresborough. HDSC provided much of the swimming tuition in Harrogate until 1992 when the Harrogate Swimming Development Scheme came into existence, and we are now proud to be in partnership with Harrogate’s Department of Leisure & Amenity Services in supporting the Swimming Development Scheme, the design of which we were pleased to advise upon. |
